Trace Group Hold and VDH to participate in Modernization of Railway Line from Gyueshevo to the North Macedonia Border

26 Feb 2026

Trace Group Hold Plc, in partnership with VDH AD, will take part in the implementation of a strategic infrastructure project for the construction and modernization of the railway section Gyueshevo – border with the Republic of North Macedonia.

The project is part of the new TEN-T corridor “Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean”, aligned with the priorities of European transport policy and compliant with Regulation (EU) 2024/1679. It is expected to improve regional connectivity and enhance cross-border transport.

As part of the project, Gyueshevo station will be transformed from a border station into a joint border station, serving both passengers and freight along the external land border of the Schengen Area. The existing station building, which is a cultural asset of local significance, will be preserved and used as a reception building, while modern facilities for traffic management, safety, and operations will be provided.

The railway section will be constructed in compliance with interoperability requirements and in line with the transport policies of Bulgaria and North Macedonia. Its implementation will follow the applicable legislation and European standards.

Upon completion, the project will ensure effective railway connectivity between the two countries, as well as full operational readiness of the new joint border station Gyueshevo—an important step toward improving transport infrastructure and integration within the Schengen Area.
