The railway line has a length of 23 km from the exit of the Nis station to the entrance of Brestovac will be rehabilitated. The project activities are divided into two sections:
- the first section includes a railway line from the exit of Nis station to the exit of Belotince station plus telecommunications and signalling from Nis station;
- the second section presents a railway line from the exit of Belotince station to the entrance of Brestovac station, plus telecommunications and signalling system that will reach to Brestovac station.
The railway line is a part of the international Corridor №10 connecting Serbia to Central and Western Europe – to North Macedonia and Greece.
The project co-financing is provided by the EU in accordance with the rules of Regulation (EU) № 231/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council dated on 11 March 2014 establishing an Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA II) and by the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
The contractor is a JV "TRACE BALKANTEL" with a leading partner "Trace Group Hold" Plc – 85% and “BALKANTEL” OOD – 15%. Starting works begin with a removal of the old rails near Nis village of Dolno Medzhurkovo.
The first sod ceremony was attended by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the President of the Republic of Serbia Alexander Vucic.
