In June 2018, in the presence of the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Mr. Boyko Borissovand with a wish for a trouble-free trip, was officially opened the bypass of Aheloy City (a resort town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast) and the four-lane road section from Pomorie City to Aheloy. In his speech Mr. Borisov said: “Maybe this is the most deadly section. I hope that whoever goes on the new road will like it”. He added that this road was promised for 40 years. “Only today 35,000 people have landed at Bourgas Airport, and this year their number will reach 3 million. That is why we build. It was promised 40 years ago… It is easy to talk, difficult to build. This time he has been waiting for 40 years".

The project was executed before the appointed time without any compromise on quality, as emphasized by Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov. "This road will serve us all, for good tourism and road safety. We appeal to all drivers to comply with the rules, and to the police-traffic police colleagues – to realize better control of the road", Minister Nankov said.

The Aheloy road, although of a small length, is an object of national importance, commented at the start of construction (November 2017) the Chairman of the Board of Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA). Mr. Doncho Atanasov. During the active tourist season the traffic is about 30 000 cars per day.

The construction of this entirely new route was financed by the national budget. The investment amounts toBGN 23.2 million. The contractor of the project is Trace Group Hold PLC, with project engineer Georgi Ivanov. The Employer is RIA.

The project was completed 4 months ahead of schedule.

During the construction of the 4.5 km long section a new overpass over the route of the first-class connecting road between the village of Tankovo and the town of Aheloy, as well as a roundabout for connection with Kableshkovo and Aheloy were built. The two-lane road has a width of each of the lines of 7.5 m, the middle dividing strip is 2 m wide. Also a bridge over the Aheloy River was built with a reinforced concrete construction in a prefabricated assembly with prestressed beams and pilot foundation, as well as a collector drainage system with a length of 3 km and 8 culverts having Ø1500.

The implementation of the project brought transit traffic outside Aheloy avoiding thus congestion and ensuring more safety for all road users.
