Expansion of metro in Sofia "Druzhba" living area - "Sofia" Airport

PROJECT FOR EXPANSION OF THE METRO IN SOFIA THIRD STAGE – LOT 1: "BUL. TSARIGRADSKO SHOSE (MS19) – "DRUZHBA" LIVING AREA – "SOFIA" AIRPORT (MS 23)"

SECTION:  FROM KM 3+184,90 (END OF MS 20) TO "PORUCHIK NEDELCHO BONCHEV" STR. КМ 5+010,00.

The section performed by the union includes the construction of two-way metro tunnel with length of 1,8 km and metro station. Having in mind the peculiarities of the section and the geological conditions, design for performance according to the technologies open and "Milan" methods are developed. The tunnel sections under boulevards "Krastion Pastuhov" and "Podp. Yordan Todorov" are constructed in foundation ditch with sheet reinforced walls.

Metro station 21 is located under "Iskarsko shose" Blvd. and is constructed according to the "Milan method". It has two vestibule and its length is 144 m. The South vestibule has three entrances, exiting at the crossing of "Krastyo Pastuhov" Blvd. and "Iskarsko shose" Blvd., where are located the routes of the city bus transport. The pedestrian underway towards the North vestibule provides direct connection to the railway line and railway stop, which is also included in the scope of specified position 2. It provides the opportunity for people traveling by train to have a direct connection to the metro with direction city center and "Sofia" Airport. 

Additional information

The performance of the contract includes the design and construction of:

• Tunnels with length of 1,824 m according to "Milan method" and "Open method".
• Underground metro station - MS 21 (without complete stop of the traffic during construction), including construction, architectural and finishing operations, elevators and escalators, ventilation, el. installation, axiomatization and telecommunication systems, water supply and sewage systems;
• Railway stop, at the crossing of the national railway network, located between "Iskar" and "Poduene" railway stations. The railway stop has a direct connection to the metro station of "Iskarsko shose".
• Electro-mechanical works.

The metro station and railway station are designed by a team of "Injproekt" OOD under the leadership of arch. Konstantin Kosev.

Contractor for the project is Union "Metro Druzhba" company, as per the obligations and contracts law, with leader "Trace Group Hold" PLC and partners "Mostconsult" OOD and "RGB" EOOD.

The construction supervision is performed by company, as per the obligations and contracts law "NR RUBICON" with partners "NR-Consult" EOOD and "RUBICON Engineering" OOD.
